‘What Ails the Adyar?’ A Chennai River Study

‘What ails the Adyar?’ was the title of the sociology project last year at The School, Chennai. The idea to use the river Adyar as an entry point for a group study on research methods came from environmental activist Nityanand Jayaraman, who has been collecting narratives of residents living along the banks of the river as part of the work of his collective called the Vettiver Koottamaippu or Vettiver Collective.

At School with Design: Introducing Design Studies

As parents of children at the school, three of us (Aarti Kawlra, Deepa Kamath and Kalpana Shah Korwar) have been associated with different projects and activities at The School, KFI—in the preparation of a class newspaper, in teaching a session on the role of cotton and weaving in the Industrial Revolution, in the designing of the wash area outside the dining hall.
